Tango's world cup
Japan won the cup
The Japanese won the highest award in the Salon category before 6,000 spectators at Luna Park. Argentina came third. And there was a well-deserved tribute to Amelita Baltar.
For the first time in the history of the World Tango Dancing Championships, the champions and runners-up of the Salon Category are two foreign couples.
The festival got started at the Teatro Avenida, with tango greats accompanied by the ZAP youth orchestra. The different festival venues were awash with the talent of musicians, singers, dancers, teachers and choreographers. This celebration of tango had taken over Buenos Aires again.
Pugliese Night
Pugliese Night
On Saturday 15 August, the Teatro Avenida was host to the “Pugliese Night”. For over two hours, various musicians who accompanied the author of “Recuerdo” at different times in his career, got together to pay tribute to him. The bandoneonist Daniel Binelli opened fire, commanding his quintet, who rendered four tangos. The last was “La biandunga”, a number by Don Osvaldo which, as Binelli said, “was already avant-garde when it first came out,” in 1968.
